Penny - I found these browsing around in old messages: It looks like the noauth addition to the options file and adding the line alias char-major-108 ppp_generic to /etc/conf.modules might do the trick. the conf.modules file is used to load modules needed by the kernel to perform certain tasks rather than compiling everything into the kernel. By default RedHat leaves most non-essential stuff as modules. This is a good idea in my opinion. I am not sure if this actually loads it or just tells the kernel that it is availible if needed.
