There are only two cases where the intstaller removes partitions:

1) In server class install, it will wax all partitons on the disk, regardless
of what the partitions types are.

2) In {gnome,kde} workstation install, if you allow the installer to automatically
partition (remove data), all partitions of type 0x83 and 0x82 will be waxed

You should have done an expert install/manually partitioned. Yes the partitioning
code sux, but it did warn you.
