if your system is set to boot into runlevel 5 the login screen is gdm I
belive.  A widow with text entry fields for username and password as well as
an opions button.  Click on the options button to dril down to the desktop
environment/windowmanger to use.

switchdesk is on my system but I have never used it.  Don't think I did
anything special to install it must be part of the standard X install.

try which switchdesk from the command line to find it.
ala:

[bhughes@gateway1 bhughes]$ which switchdesk
/usr/bin/switchdesk
