getting rid of gmc ??

Does anymbody knows how to get rid definitely of gmc when running 
gnome ?

I tried to edit the session file by hand and take off the gmc line (even before 
starting X) : no luck this survivor just puts itself back to the session 
file !! 

I kind of hate things that impose themselves "ala Win$$"
