I have S.u.S.E 6.3 and a Iomega 100meg Zip Drive I got mine working by
adding this line to my local.boot file.
insmod parport
insmod lp
insmod imm
Then I added this line to my /etc/fstab.
/dev/sdb4 /mnt/zip auto noauto,user 0 0
This worked great for me when I rebooted it loaded the modules and my zip
drive light came on and all was well. Hope this helps.
