When connecting from a win 98 box through a Linux (RH 5.2) box (acting
as a gateway) via telnet to RedHat 6.x boxes I am having the connection
terminate after a period of no activity.
I can have a telnet session to a slackware box going through the same
dial up server sit idle all day and not disconnect. Also I can telnet
to the slackware box and then on to the RedHat 6.x box and not get
disconnected. I can telnet to the gateway and then onto the RH 6.x box
and not drop out. I can have a Linux box or win 98 machine connected
via modem to the Internet and not have the telnet session drop out.
I have read about some similar occurrences in the past and there was
mention of a
"set autologout=0" setting that would stop this occurring but no mention
of where the file might be that has this setting.
Also I have read that putting "TMOUT=0" into the /etc/bashrc file may
assist in stopping these disconnection's occurring. I tried this with
no success.
This problem is very annoying and I am unable to find any help in
solving it, if someone could point me at some appropriate documentation
about how to stop this happening it would be appreciated
Regards
Steve
