Howdy
I'm brand new to linux/unix. I've been wrestling with RH.6.1 for a
while now. Last night I downloaded *all* the 6.1 rpm bug fixes and
installed them. Most of the packages updated well (although I haven't
tried rebooting the machine yet, so I'm not sure what the total damage
will be).
But several packages had missing dependencies. I did a full install
originally, everything but some of the developer stuff. It seems to me
that I should have the requisite files, given that I installed 6.1 and
am updating 6.1 --but given the anaconda screwup, I'm not so sure.
>From some of the error messages it looks like the patches need files
from a release prior to 6.1.
I've already looked through RH's ftp site in the /i386/ dir's of
various releases. The missing files don't seem to be attached to any
particular release.
Below is a list of the bugfix rpm's that didn't install and the
dependencies reported as missing. My question is, do I need to go
searching through old revs for these files, download and install them
and then try the patch again? What do I need to do to have an
up-to-date release of 6.1?
Also.... If anyone has any experience of installing the other "bug
fixes" and having them turn out to be "gotcha's", I'd like to hear that
as well. Like I said, I installed all of the patches except for the
developer .rpm's
Any pointers are appreciated. I'll obviously look here for replies,
but if you'd also email your response I'd appreciate it. This message
