Is this as a user? If so, is quota support enabled, and is he at his limit?
Also, would 800mb happen to be %5 of the total disk space? If so, the disk
is full as far as normal users are concerned. By default, 5% of the total
partition size is reserved for use by root, to prevent users from filling
up the disk and crashing the system when the system tries to write to log
files, ect...
Another posibility depends on how he partitioned the disk. Could one
partition be filled, and that is where the system is trying to write?
The output of the df -h command would be helpfull!
