I did some exeperimentation with the pppd configuration.  I had the
kdebug turned way up (7), probably since the time I installed RH6.0.  I
got rid of the kernel messages by turning down the value.  At 3, no
messages, at 4 the messages appear.  Although the log file does not
prefix the kernel messages with PPPD, that's who is generating them. 
The next thing is to understand why PPPD is outputting the fragments of
traffic back to the remote.  I'm assuming a buffer or timing problem,
but I haven't found anything in the docs to tell me.

Anyone familiar with pppd enough to hazard a guess?
