Hey, folks,
I'm running RH 5.2, with only some of the updates. I just got a notice from
ORBS that my sendmail has an open relay.
I'll admit I'm a trusting soul, and I have generally trusted the RH sendmail
setup to work. I'm still on sendmail 8.8.7-20, which, when I first installed 5.2,
didn't allow any email from my users to go outside our subnet. Thankfully,
one of the RH lists cleared that up for me, through editing /etc/mail/ip_allow.
So, what is going on exactly, and what do I need to do? I've been looking at
the ORBS webs site, and many of the sites it has links to; I confess I know
very little about sendmail, so a lot of what I've looked at has just baffled me.
I've also looked at the RH site and the sendmail.org site, and I've checked
the list archives to some extent. This all over the past three hours or so. If
spammers can abuse my server, I want to correct the problem as soon as I
can.
Please help.
Thanks.
Joe
