Hello experts:
I am a new user (Red Hat Linux release 6.0 (Hedwig)).
In The Xwindow user How To, you can read:
If you're interested in the gory details, or want to see the samples,
or even want to replace those silly color names with your own for some
strange reason, you can find the file listing all the colors with
their hexadecimal representation in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/rgb.txt on your
  system...

An application I am running needs some small variations in those names. I tried to
edit
the rgb.txt file but after starting Xwindow (Gnome) nothing changes. The Color
Browser still
sees the same old names.
Maybe, there is some elementary step missing in the How To?
Has anybody done this before and can help me now.
Thanks in advance.
