I'll second that and add a plug for muLinux
(http://sunsite.auc.dk/mulinux/). It fits on 1 1722 disk or 2 1440 o
nes and has the advantage that it will run in 4mb of RAM and will run
as a diskless client. It also comes with supplementary disks that give
you X, gcc and a full suite of ext2 tools. The basic system is more
 of a mini-distribution since it comes with a mini-sendmail,
 midnight-commander clone, mail/news client, lynx-alike and a set of
server-daemons (from telnet to www) - it's amazing what you can do
 with netcat.

Tom of tomsrbt has said that the two complement each other - tomsrbt is
recovery/diagnosis oriented while muLinux is excellent for mini-setups
like print-servers, diskless routers etc.
