Sorry to chime in so late, but don't most hard drives have BIOS patches that
can be downloaded to 'fix' old BIOS's? I know that Quantum's can use
OnTrack, and I'm sure I've seen something for Seagate as well. I used to use
this on Windows systems. It sits in the MBR. I've never used it on Linux,
but if OnTrack (or whatever) sits in the MBR, can't you just put LILO
somewhere else and use the hard disk this way? I know it's not ideal, but it
may be a solution?
