I'd say from experience, RedHat 6.1 out of the box is easier to install and
manage then Debian. I use both myself, but for new users, RedHat guides you
through the installation and configuration and comes as default with a
"windows" look and feel. Where debian is a bit more complicated. I don't
have experience with some of the other distributions so I cannot comment on
them.
IMHO; for a New Linux user, go with RH 6.1 and once you have more experience
you should explore the other distributions to get a feel for what is
available.
