Stage 1) Check cabling.
Stage 2) turn off the other chatterboxes, so only the linux server and
the windows box are on. use "tcpdump -i eth0" to watch for traffic on
the eth0 interface. Try to do anything on the workstation (ping, browse
network, browse web...) If you don't see anything, see Stage 1. If
you're absolutely sure that the cabling is good (that is, it works when
you use a different workstation at that location), then you may need to
find a particular hotfix related to networking for Win98 on microsoft's
site. If you can't find the hotfix among that unnavigatable mess, then
reformat and reinstall windows. (no, i'm not joking)
