I also have this printer problem RH 6.1
I did what you suggested and my printer got detected, but, I still
cannot print.
I can do a dirtect printing to port of the test page under printtol
(Well twice it Worked!)
Any suggestions, I know lpd is working because I get no error messages
when I ask for the ASCII test
page,
only problem is nothing comes out of my printer

Thanks, Bernhard! I didn't realize that lpr was buggy in RH6.1. It's not
on
their errata page, so I assumed it was OK. I hope others on this list
realize
this. Also, RH6.1 did not detect my parallel port. so something is
screwed up
with the parport package as well. A fix is to set the alias:
alias parport_lowlevel parport_pc
in /etc/conf.modules, as given by a bug report in the bugzilla system. I
would
think this should show up somehow in the errata section as well! Oh,
well.
