None of the current imaging tools will properly handle ext2 partition
information when resizing partitions, so for all practical purposes, these
are bad tools.

Tar up your filesystem instead, and just keep a written log of your
current partition sizes. A nice tool like tomsrtbt will let you untar your
filesystem back into place on a new system with ease. Then just rerun
lilo. :)
