Hi guys Well I've been three weeks on this so far and not much neqarer getting this working Below is the copy of a letter to Asus which expalins my problem If someone out there has had this problem and found the solution please , please let me know Thanks Phil Fwd...................... Dear Sirs I have been searching through your web site options for help to save your time in writing a reply So far the Archives on your web site respond with the 404 error and the technical reference section showed no answers. I have been back to the supplier who were less than helpful (see below) Setup K7M with on board sound and no oboard modem. Athalon 500 128Mb RAM ( purchased with the board) Matrox Millenium ll Buslogic BT950 and IBM 18Gb scsi drives ( 4) All other cards removed OS Linux RedHat 6.1 ( supplier told me to install windows 98, I have not used MS Windows for 5 years, only running Linux on my network, this was less than helpful) Problem Modem, ISA 56k int. as previously used, works in all the other machines, have swapped out . I have found that I cannot get any modem to work. It isnt found by any of the dialup scripts Further, when NO modem card is installed, all the different diallers (ezppp, kppp etc) detect a modem though not functional. I assume that when I plug in my modem card it conflicts with the non existent modem and so is not detected Summary to date, Linux detects a modem, queries it, and lists the modem strings even though No modem card installed and no modem should be on board. Any other (real) modem when installed is not found. In BIOS (version 1.17) the enable modem option is permanantly greyed out in the disabled mode. Notes This has been a motherboard cpu upgrade. All other components remain the same (old system was Ppro 200 on a Micronics Motherboard with all the above components) After initial upgrade, system came up fine, but running the modem froze the system I eventually ran a fresh install with all the non essential cards removed and the problem remained the same Only recently ( I have been two weeks on this thing) did I discover that removing the modem card did not stop RedHat finding a modem !!!! This is, I am sure, the heart of the problem and I presume that there is some modem circuitry not being disabled I have put this problem to several Linux user groups and found a gentleman in England who has the same setup as I do, with no problems at all!!!! ( he says this is a fine board ) Comments Please do not advise me to install win98 , this is no solution for me :-) I have tried all the resources I could find before posting this quaetion to you All other aspecgts of this setup seem to work very well.
