Vi inserts true TAB characters (Ctrl-I) into the file.

BIND chokes on this. Most of the other editors pad the tabs out...
(or was it the other way around?)

What type of symptons do you see?  The only editor I've used for my named
files is VI and I haven't seen any problems.
