I have RH 6.1 installed with a 3Com900Tx NIC. The card is recognized at bootup (I compiled support for it into my kernel) just fine. I have a DSL connection via USWest with uswest.net as my ISP. During bootup, when it comes time to acquire an IP address for the NIC (using DHCP/pump) it takes forever to complete, though complete it does with an "[OK]". The wait is intolerably long so I deselected the "activate at bootup" button in netcfg and opted to add "/sbin/pump &" to my rc.local file instead. This doesn't tend to work well - I often find that I have to run the command as root at the command prompt in order to get the card assigned an IP. Since putting this line in rc.local doesn't work, where might I add the command? I have found that within seconds of running the command at the command prompt, I am able to ping, browse the web, etc, even though the process hasn't "completed" with the ...success message, which sometimes follows up to a minute later. What can I do to improve the process so that during a bootup so it wont take so damn long to get past the 'initializing eth0' step? I would go back to 'activate at bootup' if it would work faster. Is there a setting or switch that I need to change? patrick -- To unsubscribe: mail [EMAIL PROTECTED] with "unsubscribe" as the Subject.
