sony vaio

Has anybody gotten X-Windows to work on a Sony Vaio, or any computer with an
ATI Rage 128 AGP GL card ?  If so .. how? Also, I have a 3Com OfficeConnect
(3CSOHO100-TX) Ethernet card ... I don't see it on the supported, but I also
don't see it on the unsupported hardware list.  Perhaps a generic driver
would work for it ?  Any help / responses would be appreciated.
