Thanks. You put me on the track.
It seems that kppp V1.6.22 always uses the
/root/.kde/share/config/kppprc file for it's setup, no matter who is
currently executing kppp. (This was *not* the case with earlier versions
of kppp.)
So, I made sure that the group on the kppprc file was the group where my
own user id is member and then I gave group rw access to the file. No
way, logged in as a user, kppp asks me for the owners password (in this
case root) and then *resets* the access to -rw-------. I.e. no access to
the file through the group. :-(
So my newly modified question is: How can I make kppp V1.6.22 use a
kppprc under my own ~/ dir *or* how can I make sure that kppp can use
the common(??) kppprc file in root's home directory tree?
Personally, I'd prefer the first, that every user could use their own
kppprc file. I don't think a user has anything to do in roots homedir
tree.
I hope that this is considered as a bug. The fact that kppp is installed
under the kde menus in a users X desktop indicates to me that s/he
should have access to kppp without giving root's password. I'm alone on
this machine so it's not a big deal for me, but IMO it's wrong.
Hopefully someone has a solution to this situation. Anyone????
