I have had a similar problem with my olivetti printer. After it working
for so long on RH5.2, after i installed 6.1 it stopped working. I setup
the printcap file again, with no result. After going into printtool and
adding a new printer, it said that it couldn't find a device (printer
port). Its there in the BIOS, it says its there on boot, but dmesg dosnt'
mention anything about it, and it still refuses to work (it emulates
HPDeskjet perfectly in case you were wondering).
I havn't been worried about it, but i'll need the printer one day i guess,
and i think it sounds like a similar problem, the printer port dosn't look
like its been detected at all by RedHat :/
