I am using 6.1
Basically what is happening is; at some point in the course of the day,
I am unable to access outside my machine. ping localhost still works,
my two nic-cards are recognized, but nothing goes out or comes in?
My cable-modem and ISP are operated by the same outfit here in Alaska,
GCI.net
and I have a Static Ip which they recently "reconfigured" and changed
but claim to have done "nothing which should have caused this"
However I had no problem before the switch-over!?
I am notorious for misconfigurations after"tweaking" but cannot
remember anything which might have caused this.
The following are excerpts from a post to another Linux group;
>ifconfig shows nothing unusual; however no remote ping,
> telnet, etc. but locahost okay.

Somehow outside access gets disabled.

Responses:
>dhcp doesn't renew its lease
>(try switching pump for dhcp or dhcp for pump, as your bootproto
However, having a static-ip I was able to "direct connect" without
setting up
any of the specific network interface protocols before i.e.
"I just plugged in the numbers and it worked!"
Another Response:
>Hey folks, it looks like an ISP to me
>pump/dhcp compatibility? I think it's worth checking out..
>It appears your ISP may use special protocols (de-commoditized?)
>to establish the link.
>My guess is dhcp from M$ could be slightly different ...
Any ideas on this one? I could very well have something set up wrong,
but it did work fine before !?
Thanks for any help this is driving me bonkers, and my
"singing the praises of Linux" is once again causing
my wife to "smile knowingly" as she boots into M$. :>)
