Linuxconf is good for helping someone running a very conventional set
up when they are trying to figure out what to do.
Linuxconf does not run fine as a console app. It seems to be very
dependent on having support for ncurses and agreement with the telnet
app you are using. It is reasonable only to say that linuxconf runs
fine if your running a terminal window under X. I prefer to run a
headless server and find linuxconf to be a pain in the butt. I would
much prefer if linuxconf would work with a command line mode and
logged all the files it changed so I could fix them manually. It seems
to have separate "linuxconf" files that get used in the configuration
process, which makes it difficult to fix the mistakes.
Linuxconf, IMHO, throws up a double whammy to handicap anyone who
wants to administer a linux system manually. It changes configuration
files and is inaccessible except through X-windows.
