I tried that and no change. Again this is the failure message.

_FontTransSocketUNIXConnect: Can't connect:
errno = 111
failed to set default font path 'unix/:-1'
Fatal server error:
could not open default font 'fixed'

I also ran a <rpm -Va | grep -i font> command and found everything OK.
After I did rpm -U *font* on the installation disk.
