There's another issue here, too. First, check /etc/ld.so.conf and make
sure that every directory which holds libraries is included in that list.
After you make any changes to this conf file, run ldconfig to rebuild the
database.
I've seen a few packages which failed to install because they couldn't
find the requisite library. When I confirmed that the library was, indeed,
installed, I used the --nodeps switch to install the package. The
application ran just fine after that.
