Okay my funky bretheren
I've got an ensoniq card using the es1370 chipset.
I've read every doc on sound, modules, hardware, boot params and have come
to this setup:
modprobe soundcore
modprobe soundlow
modprobe sound
modprobe es1370

lsmod reports:

Module Size Used by
es1370 20796 0
sound 57208 0 (autoclean) (unused)
soundlow 300 0 (autoclean) [sound]
soundcore 2372 7 (autoclean) [es1370 sound]

and /dev/sndstat reports a VERY EMPTY output:

Load type: Driver loaded as a module
Kernel: Linux adsl-78-160-122 2.2.5-15 #14 Tue Nov 23 21:22:27 EST 1999

dd if=/dev/dsp produces no errors
I did a 'MAKDEV audio' to recreate all relative device nodes
the source code for es1370 doesn't show the module to accept any interrupt
or port options.
I've built everything under sound (as modules);
depmod reports no troubles with them.

I've read that sometimes you have to run the DOS drivers to set weird
registers, then LOADLIN into linux for some cards to work. I'll give this
a try then I'll start trying some of the SB compatibles, but if anyone has
got a clue in the meantime, please send them my way.

Oh, yeah...The soundcard definitely works (under MS), the cables and
speakers are definitely good.

Happy Tanksgiving Everyone!
J.
