Hello All

I just recently installed SAMBA (2.05) on my RH 5.2 (intel) on my system, so I
can connect to my Windows 98 system in the best possible manner. Well the
installation of SAMBA was suprisingly(sp?) easy and I got things connected
pretty much the way I wanted.

One problem persited though, as SAMBA (smbd, nmbd) would suddenly stop working
without any apparent changes on my part. all of a sudden, i would lose the abil
ity to reach my samba services from my Windows machine. I would get an error
regarding an "unknown host" from smbd.. (this is from log.smbd)

[1999/11/23 01:04:24, 0] lib/util_sock.c:open_socket_in(854)
  Get_Hostbyname: Unknown host tim-annex-port16.vianet.on.ca

Well I finally tracked down the cause:
Of course when I connect to the internet using dialup to my ISP , my "hostname"
would get changed to something like: "tim-annex-port16.vianet.on.ca"
(I get a dynamic ip number from my ISP)
My solution was to issue the following command:
"hostname localhost.localdomain"

Now finally for the question:
Is there a way to prevent the above problem?
If not, what would be the best way to keep my $HOSTNAME at
"local.localdomain"?

Thank You in Advance
