Dear list readers -
During the past few weeks i have been experiencing a strange oddity on
my RedHat 5.2 linux 2.0.38 server. After 2-3 days i begin to see ident
failures on the console, which eventually leaves uses unable to get
their pop3 email. I was wondering if anyone else has seen this problem,
and if so, what is the best way to resolve it. I have looked into
upgrades for ident and the only ones i have seen lately are ident v2.
I have checked my /etc/inetd.conf and the ident line has not changed,
nor am i certain what i have installed/configured that would let ident
run for two to three days and then begin to fail. I have tried killall
-HUP inet which doesnt seem to fix it, i have tried restarting sendmail
which isnt really related but doesnt fix it either. Is it the postmaster
that needs restarted when ident starts to fail? I am in need of a fix so
this server doesnt need rebooted ever 3 days or so, its getting
aggrevating.
Any advice and/or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
