Hi Sorry to be a pain but I have installed RH 6.1 (Kernel v2.2.12.20) and have been experiencing various problems which I am trying to address. Before doing so I need to create a bootable disk - just in case. The problem I have is that the floppy drive, a Mitbishi LS-120 COSM 05, is on the secondary slave (hdd in Linux parlance). During a normal boot this is picked up as:- hdd: LS-120 SLIM 05 UHD Floppy, ATAPI Floppy drive I am able to mount a disk using msdos, vfat or ext2 fs types on /dev/hdd and read/write files but I do not seem to be able to create a boot disk. I have been through the FAQs and HOWTOs and tried various options including a dd of the kernel to /dev/hdd and installing LILO on a floppy. These appear to work but the created boot disk does not. With a dd I am getting an error saying that the image is not in the correct compressed state and with LILO I just get a screen full of binary (0s and 1s). Both result in a system halt. I feel sure that this has something to do with major and minor numbers but am not that up to speed as yet. Could anyone out there point me in the right direction? Thanks in anticipation.
