I have this same problem with both a 3C905 and a 3C905B. If you skip the network
startup during
the interactive startup and then run it manually, you can then Ctrl-C out of it and
the card will be
configured correctly. Further research shows that it is actually the pump program
that is hanging.
This is what gets your DHCP information from the DHCP server. My DHCP server log
shows that the
system is contacting it and gettings its configuration properly. If you log in on
another screen and
run top you will see that two copies of pump are running and that only one of them is
counting time.
If you exit top and kill the copy of pump that is counting time, then the network
start script will
complete. I have found that there is a driver for this card available on the 3COM web
site. I don't
know if it is newer than the one included in RH6.1
I haven't had time to do more than this.
