I got a similar error after upgrading to to 6.1 from 6.0.  This and some
other problems prompted me to wipe the drive and start over.  Works like a
charm (save this module char-major-108 problem I can't seem to get to go
away, but it doesn't seem fatal.)  I never tried ripping out my scripts,
and re-doing them, which is basically what a re-install did.  You might
want to try that.
