I've built a couple of RAID setups with RedHat 6.0, from ~=10GB to
~=20GB. I can't speak for larger partitions, but you certainly
shouldn't have had trouble with a 20GB setup.
OTOH, what RAID level were you using? What controller to you have?
What's hooked up to it?
My first suggestion, would be to get a boot/root floppies and run
badblocks' r/w test on all the disks. You'll have to reinstall
afterward.... If the badblocks tests succeed on all the drives, then
try building one or two kernels. That should test out the CPU/memory.
Let me know what happens.
