It should have been installed in /usr/lib. Look there.
Next, check /etc/ld.so.conf and make sure that it includes the directory where
the shared object went to. For example, lots of things put the shared libs in
/usr/local/lib, but RH by default does not list that directory in ld.so.conf.
Next, run ldconfig as root to make sure the shared lib path cache has been updated.
Somewhere along those lines, that should fix it.
