Hi!
Yep. I looked up at HP's web site, but there is no such a thing as a
"manual" there. What they have are some "howto" style docs. I downloaded
around ten of them, mostly troubleshooting, and all of them get to the
point "check that printer is configured for parallel connection", but they
forgot the "how". I did not find any info on the DIP switches in the back
side (12 of them), either.
Any help would be really appreciated.

The II might have parallel and serial ports, and you might have the serial
port enabled...
The HP site normally has the docs for the printer online in PDF format.
Have you tried there?
