Hi, my company is running approx. a dousin Linux boxes with RH4.2/5.0
and one with S.U.S.E.
On one of theese machines we deleted the wtmp file and the lastlog file
We have tried different approaches to solving the problem and we would like
to
hear if anyone knows "The enlightened way" of fixing it :-)

heres what we tried with different degree of luck:

touch wtmp;chmod a-wx wtmp : the wtmp file grows but last shows no
new records
cp /dev/null wtmp : This seemed to work but date of wtmp got
reset to
1.1.70
touch wtmp;touch lastlog + reboot : w/who and last isnt working, last
shows rubbish date 1.1.70 and w gives no rec.

I guess we feel ackward about having to reinstall but is that the only way
to go ?
Any sugestion is welcome :-) unless they require sending money, loveletters
or cc # :P
