Hi. I recently installed RH5 from a Cheap Bytes CD but I seem to have
problems with
the serial ports. None of the /dev/cua* and /dev/ttyS* seem to be
recognized by the
system.

My system is pentium 200 with Vxpro chipset with 32 M. I managed to get
X ( XFree86
)working with the S3 ViRGE card (860c325) after quite an effort and
noticed that
the mouse didn't work, neither did gpm. Digging around I found that:

setserial -g /dev/cua* gives me "Operation not supported by device"
the same for /dev/ttyS*.

X comes up if I link /dev/mouse to /dev/ttys0 but the mouse won't work.
Read Serial
HOWTO and checked the device files - all file parameters seem to be ok .

I have been using RH 4.0 for more than a year and still have it on
another
partition in the same machine. The serial ports work fine on RH4.0.
Running
setserial on these devices gives me the appropriate information. So I
don't suspect
the hardware. Also mouse and modem on NT and Win95 on the other
partitions work
well.

I rebuilt the kernel a few times - serial support ( generic ) is built
in however I
don't see the driver being loaded at start up.
Would some one please help me troubleshoot.

Thanks

-Pradeep
