I noticed one other post to this list containing this message in
/var/log/messages just before a crash.

I was using my computer when a load spike hung everything. The load
skyrocketed and there was a lot of disk access. I switched to a different
virtual screen (afterstep) and typed "top" in a window, but the load was so
high that it never executed. After a short bit the keyboard died (Pressing
caps lock didn't change the state of the LED) and the mouse died.

I rebooted and the ONLY thing I can find in any logfile is that mysterious
message, occurring exactly twice:

kernel: Unable to load interpreter

that appears right when the load spike occurred.

On April 20th, someone posted to the redhat-list about the same thing
happening (on a web server) -- with no apparent answer in response.

I have 5.0 installed with nearly all errata items. (I may be a few weeks
behind, but not months.) This is just a home machine with no web server
installed. (I "rpm -e apache" since I don't use it.) FWIW, I was PPP'd
into my ISP when everything hung. But at least so far from looking around,
it doesn't look like I've been hacked, but instead like there was a
mysterious crash.

Ideas, anyone?

                   Thanks,

                      Eddie

P.S. Sorry for the mysterious appearance of this message in the list.
Sadly, my UUCP provider seems to insist on quoting ('>') my Received line
in all outgoing mail. I haven't figured this out yet. Anyway, the Redhat
list chokes on the bogus >Received line. Trying different things in
sendmail.cf in the "HReceived" line hasn't changed this. (Yes, I restarted
sendmail before trying the new file, each time, and I saw the *different*
Received line quoted.)
