i've seen this behavior on my toshiba laptop when i try to use an
external PS/2 mouse on it. it's never done it when i was using only
the little stick and occasionally wouldn't do it when using the
external mouse. it is rather annoying when it does happen and has
gotten me killed in squake several times. therefore, it isn't a
problem with the XFree PS/2 driver. i thought it was something dodgy
with sharing the PS/2 port between two pointing devices, but
apparently it isn't necessarily that. FWIW, i haven't personally seen
this happen on any other machine with a PS/2 mouse, though most
machines i use heavily have serial mice.
