As far as I can remember, Compaq uses MWAVE modems, which means they only
work under Windows. And if the kernel only sees one serial port, this
usually means you'r in bug shit.
Check you BIOS at startup. If you BIOS only finds one serial port, you've
got yourself a WindModem
