Isn't that what the dependencies check during the install process is 
for?  If you had such a qmail source/compile install then surely 
you'd just be able to add appropriate dependencies and ensure that 
the initial install process included them.

I know that some of the stuff that I installed on my RH5 box had 
other package dependencies and the install process offered the 
opportunity to install them as well.
