Funny thing being, an OS with good multitasking is a natural for something
like a winmodem, doing it under win3.1 was madness. I mean, you have this
fast cpu essentially doing nothing (my p133 is rarely near 50% load, even
under NT), why not make a dumb modem (but with a big buffer, unlike our 16
byte 16550A fifo's), and put the smarts for the cpu to deal with?
And for that matter, not just X-10, we have networked coke machines after
all (SAP Labs has one with a Strong ARM chip, that generates a transaction
with R3 on every purchase for showing off at trade shows). I mean, why not
have access to a graph of temperature and door openings? Use the MTRG to
show you a history of your use.
