Ok gang here is one for you from a true newbie.
I have a system tht has 3 HD
/dev/hda1 ibm 4.3gb ide partitioned as 1 4.3gb win fat32
This is win95's home turf
scsi adapter adaptec 2940uw
/dev/sda seagate 4.3gb uw scsi3
/root = 1 gig linux native
/swap= 128mb linux swap
/dos_scratch=700mb dos 16bit > 32m
/home2=2.5gb linux native
/dev/sdb same as sda
/home1 = 4.3gb linux native
The install goes as planned from the RH5.0 Cd. until I get to the Lilo
install
section. The first time I installed it was fine but I had to reinstall
linux due
to a uhh mistake on my part. From that point I got it to boot to the
lilo
prompt. the difference being that it was "Li" and hangs. I booted to
the
dos and executed the "fdisk /MBR" command. This fixed the hang problem
and allowed win95 to boot fine. Now when I try to reinstall linux I
can't
install lilo to the MBR of /dev/had or the first record of /dev/sda.
I am at a loss. any ides other than reformat the /dev/hda and hope it
fixes whatever
is hosed in the MBR that is not allowing Lilo to install there?
If it is a clue when you pick where to put lilo during the instalation
the
partition type for /dev/hda is unknown.
Thanks for any and all help. It has been 3 days of trial and error
fixes
and I am about ready to scream :)
Later, Steven
