I am new to Linux and have installed RH 5.0 on my system,
co-existing with NT 4.0. I want to use amd to access
filesystems at work, and my sysadmin told me to get NIS
going first.
I cannot seem to get ypbind to be started automatically.
I'm trying to set my Linux machine up as an NIS client in
an existing domain at work.
I'm trying to follow the NIS(YP) HOWTO.
Things I know to be in place:
portmap does startup automatically
ypserv starts up automatically (I don't know if this matters)
the /var/yp directory exists
there is an S script for ypbind in the /etc/rc.d/rc3(?)...
My domain name (as opposed to dnsdomainname) does not appear
to survive the reboot. If I set it manually, then I can start ypbind
manually.
My /etc/yp.conf is using the "domain NISDOMAIN broadcast" setting.
Is there a place I can look to see errors during the init script
executions?
Is there a way to configure the system so that domainname
persists across a system restart?
Thanks for any help.
