Thanks for the reply, Rick -- Actually, I found what I needed in a package called psutils (it shares a name with the /proc related psutils, so watch that). It includes a tool called psbook that create the signatures as fast as I hit the Enter key, and another for putting the pages 2-up on a single sheet. I may be mistaken, but it appears that mpage works with text files only (putting them x-up on a Postscript page)? My originals are in Postscript. Here's what I'm doing, in case anyone's interested in doing something similar: I have a directory stored in a Visual FoxPro database (I'm doing this on a volunteer basis, and if I ever give it up it must be portable to someone else's box -- which will probably *not* be running Linux). It must be printed in booklet form. VFP is to the best of my knowledge incapable of printing signatures. So what I'm doing is printing the thing out to a Postscript file so that I can then make the conversion in Linux. Very smooth, very easy. Others may share my former ignorance, so I'll share this: I was hard put for awhile when contemplating this, because I could find no way to get VFP to output a Postscript file. Solution: install any (almost any? not sure; I picked one at random) Postscript printer in Windows, but instead of picking an LPT port to print to, pick FILE. Then, when you print, it will prompt you for a filename to save the thing to, and it chunks it out as a Postscript file (which you can then take over to Linux to manipulate).
