You might want to check out the FAT32 support for Linux at
http://www-plateau.cs.berkeley.edu/
look for a link to team researcher Gordon Chaffee, who is very involved in
compatibility issues for the
m$ to Linux platforms.  In my readings, I have found that athe Win95 OSR2 wipes
out the partitions
of any other OS's. Check out http://www.webdev.net/orca/ (partition magic) and
the FAT32 alert.
I would get a new drive, as the independant dealers are retailing a 3.5 to 4.3
GB drive for under $129
at the trade shows, like Marketpro.
