Having got ppp working I will move on to the next problem. It is one I
have had with every installation of Linux. How to getting printing
working. Perhaps this is not the proper forum for this but at the moment I
do not now where else to go. I almost know the Printing HOWTO off by heart
and the pages in my ancient copy of DRx.LINUX are dog-eared at that
section :(

I have no problem with the RH printer setup, I can use the printtool
'test' and get ascii and ps printed but get nothing when I try to print
from SO4. SO4 says it is printing my doc but nothing happens. No blinking
light on the printer and I can find no temp files in the spooler or
anywhere else to suggest what is happening.

SO4 only gives options for ps printers, so I assume the print filter
set-up by printtool should do whatever it does to convert the ps output
from SO4 to something my printer can cope with. Do I need to add anything
extra to the gs options and if so how? Dire warnings about modifying the
files without using printtool make me nervous of blundering in.

I have a HP Laserjet IID with only the basic 512k of memory. The output of
the 'test ps' page was 'fuzzy' and I will have to find the wherewithal to
upgrade the memory to 1 or 2MB. I have problems printing anything with
graphics so know I'm short on memory - how much should I get? Would a PS
cartridge help? Assuming such a thing was made for the LJ II as there is
no mention of Postscript in the manuals but either printtool or SO4 makes
reference to a LJ II with PS cartridges!.

TIA
