You might also check out the PS400. It's a 19-ish inch screen with dual
inputs and a push-button on the front to switch between inputs. It's just
a little more than a 17, and a lot less than a 20. Nice features if you
use linux and windoze side-by-side on the same desk. A friend has one of
these and I am rightly jealous.  I have an 17 SE-II which is nice also. 

I've found the Diamond cards to be REAL good with drivers in Linux. I've
got 3 4MB diamond stealth 3d cards in various systems. This provides
1024x768 in several billion colors (32-bit). More resolution and colors is
not real practical on a 17" monitor. An 8MB card might provide a good
upgrade path from that though. the Megabyte on a video card (on PCs) are
generally used to hold a screenfull of pixels at a certain color depth.
More colors or more resolution increase memory demands.
