Folks,

I just sent an E-MAIL to Dell (cc to RedHat and Caldera) in
response to the statements attributed to Dell in:

    http://www.msnbc.com:80/news/161590.asp

Dell has great systems.  Their sales staff apparently were
not aware (or ignored the fact) that many of their machines
end up running Linux.   (We use lots of their machines
from 486's to new Workstation 400's running Linux or XENIX).

I would encourage those of you that use their hardware (or
refuse to use it) send a nice POLITE letter to them and
to the other large PC vendors (IBM, Micron, Gateway, HP,
Comaq) so they will get some idea of the magnitude of
Linux on their hardware.

I would recommend:

1)  Be very polite and professional.
2)  Identify who you are and your credentials.
3)  Give specifics on how you use their hardware with Linux.
4)  Provide some estimate of the machines you purchase, or for which you
recommend that run Linux (where you can).
5)  Provide why you do or do not purchase their products.
6)  Be polite and professional.

These vendors need some feedback from the Linux community.

HOWEVER, I CAN NOT STRESS THE IMPORTANCE OF
BEING POLITE, PROFESSIONAL, AND STATING BOTH
SPECIFICS AND REAL NUMBERS....  NO MS FLAMES!

Cheers,
